Ceiling Fans, Exhaust Fans& Heat Lamps
Ceiling fans for the lounge, exhaust fans for the bathroom, heat lamps for the kids' bath, garage roof-vent fans for hills properties — all installed, replaced, repaired, properly cabled and switched.
What I install
Ceiling fans — light-and-fan combos, fan-only models, AC and DC motor types, with or without remote. Including the wall switch (or remote receiver) and the proper hanging hardware.
Bathroom exhaust fans — wall-mounted or in-line ducted, vented to outside (not into the roof void — too many botched installs do this and rot the timbers).
Heat lamp + fan + light combo units — three-in-one bathroom fixtures. Higher current draw than a basic fan, often needs a dedicated circuit.
Kitchen exhaust fans / rangehoods — recirculating or ducted to outside. Electrical side direct.
Garage and shed roof vents — common on hills properties to deal with summer heat in detached workshops.
What I do on existing fans
Replacement
Fan died, swap for a new one, reuse existing wiring if compliant.
Switch problems
Fan won't speed up, won't stop on certain settings, won't reverse direction. Usually a wall switch or capacitor issue.
Wobble or noise
Sometimes mechanical (replace), sometimes a loose mounting bracket (refit).
Bathroom fan running hot
Heat lamp circuit overloaded; needs proper circuit assessment.
Common jobs east of the river
Mundaring family home
Three ceiling fans in bedrooms, two bathroom heat lamp combos, one alfresco outdoor fan. One day's work.
Midvale rental
Bathroom heat lamp tripping the RCD. Found the unit's heat element had failed to earth. Replaced unit, certified.
Helena Valley alfresco area
Outdoor-rated ceiling fan with a damp-location switch. Tidy install for hills summer entertaining.
What to SMS
Photo of the ceiling where the fan goes (or the existing fan you want replaced), the model you want fitted, and which switch position controls it now. Easy quote from there.
FAQs
Can you supply the fan or do I buy it?
Either. If you've got the model picked out, buy it and I'll fit it. If you'd rather I supply, tell me what you want (with light, without, ducted exhaust, heat lamp combo) and I'll source it.
I want a fan installed where there's no existing wiring — can you do it?
Usually yes. Depends on roof access, wall cavity options for the switch run, and what's above the ceiling. Photo of the room helps me work it out.
My bathroom fan trips the safety switch. Replace or repair?
Almost always replace. Bathroom fans pull moisture and dust, and the cheap motor windings fail with a partial earth leak. Once an RCD is tripping on it, it's not worth chasing.
