What counts as a real emergency

Not every "my power's out" call is an emergency — and honest sparkies will tell you that. Here's what is:

  • No power to the house at all (and the neighbours still have theirs)
  • A sparking or arcing outlet, switch or light fitting
  • A burning smell from the switchboard or a power point
  • Water ingress into a light fitting or GPO after a storm
  • The main switch keeps tripping and won't reset
  • A hot switchboard, hot plug, or a GPO you can smell plastic on
  • A downed private power line on your block after a storm

If you've got any of those, ring straight away. Don't wait it out.

What probably isn't — and that's fine

  • A single circuit tripping is usually a faulty appliance, not an emergency
  • A flickering light is usually a connection issue
  • A dead oven mid-roast is annoying but not urgent

Text me anyway — I'll tell you if it can wait till morning and save you a weekend call-out fee.

Why this side of town matters for emergencies

Summer storms knock the hills lines around every year. Overhead private supply poles on Helena Valley and Gidgegannup acreage take hits from tree strike and wind. Rural-fringe blocks with bore pumps, generators and sub-boards throw faults that a Perth-metro sparkie doesn't see often enough to diagnose quickly.

I live east of the river. I know which streets in Midvale still have the original 70s service, which Swan Valley cellar doors have three-phase issues, which hills pockets lose power three times a summer. That local knowledge is the difference between "I'll get to you in three hours" and "that's almost certainly your consumer pole — here's what to do while I'm on the way."

What happens when you SMS me

Send a photo of the problem, your suburb, and a quick description. Within business hours you'll usually hear back inside 15 minutes. After hours, I'm checking my phone regularly — if it's a genuine emergency I'll ring straight back. If it can wait, I'll book you in for the earliest slot the next day.

No triage call centre. No "a technician will contact you." It's me or someone on the team texting back.

Honest call-out

If it's a five-minute fix, the invoice says five-minute fix. No manufactured drama, no "we had to call out three specialists." Real fault finding with real test gear — insulation resistance, loop impedance, earth fault meter — so you get a written explanation of what was actually wrong.
